The face of Newport is changing dramatically with more exciting new developments underway.
Completed projects and investments have already delivered huge transformation for the city including a world class university campus, state of the art business premises, a new railway station, revamped market, new bus station, iconic architecture and a new waterfront district providing riverside homes and leisure opportunities.
These schemes, as well as new investments and recent announcements mean investments totaling £250 million are giving a fresh momentum to the city’s regeneration.
So, What’s new Newport? Construction of Friars Walk, Newport’s new retail and leisure scheme, is underway. When completed Friars Walk will bring top names to the city centre including Debenhams, Next, Top Shop, Nando’s, Cosmo, Frankie and Benny’s, Chiquito, Prezzo, and Cineworld.

Newport shops already signed up
Debenhams will be the key anchor store of Friars Walk while Next, Top Shop, New Look and H&M are also to take units and return to the city centre.
Popular restaurants Nando’s, Chiquitos, Prezzo, Frankie and Benny’s, Cosmo and Gourmet Burger Kitchen have also signed up.
What’s new Newport – Cineworld in Newport?
And the city centre will once again have a cinema with the opening of Cineworld.
What’s new Newport – How much investment?
After submitting a successful bid Newport City Council has been awarded £14.988 million under the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places regeneration programme to transform key properties in the city centre, converting them into new homes and space for business start-ups. It will also unlock another £45million of external investment in city centre projects.
